Annual Lecture 2007
The 2007 Annual Nelson Mandela Lecture was delivered by Mr Kofi Annan on Sunday July 22 at the University of Witwatersrand’s Education Campus in the Linder Auditorium. It was attended by a wide-ranging audience of about 1 500 invited guests.
The lecture was broadcast on South African television and radio.
Mr Annan focused on the progress of Africa, saying it needed to be balanced on three pillars: security, development and human rights.
In its fifth year, the Nelson Mandela Annual Lecture had developed into a prestigious public lecture, attracting some of the best intellectual voices in the world, and adding to the larger public dialogue on critical social issues.
